I think that's a Striped Skink, tegan. Not that I know much about Skinks but we get Striped Skinks around our house in SA occasionally & it looks very much like those. It also matches pretty well with the Googled photos.
I believe it is a Robust Striped-skink (Ctenotus robustus). Tou may want to submit that to Canberra Nature Map http://canberranaturemap.org/ where an expert can verify the ID for you- Mulwala N.S.W is just within the project boundaries

I think Ctenotus robustus was the species among a number of others whose photos adorned a poster on the wall of our toilet until it fell to pieces. The poster, that is. The toilet still stands tall.

I now have it confirmed as Ctenotus robustus thanks to you guys, is the common name 'Robust Striped Skink' or 'Eastern Striped Skink'?

It is common for species to have more than one common name- both seem to be used in this case
