Hi All,
Having always loved birds my interest has been further sparked by becoming a resident of the Adelaide foothills. I am also fortunate to live alongside a Grey Box regeneration reserve which is a beautiful site to observe the native bird life. Yesterday I had the magical and extremely lucky experience of observing my first male Rose Robin, an absolute stunner! I was also lucky enough to snap this pic, I hope you enjoy!
Looking forward to sharing and learning more about our wonderful Australian birds.
I'm fairly new here myself, but welcome, and I am looking forward to seeing more photos and hearing about the birds you get in your area.

That's a most unusual sighting for the Adelaide foothills, Mother Hen. If you haven't already you might like to let Birds SA know about it. Still, it just shows what a little ecological restoration can do! How lucky you are to be living next to regenerating Grey Box Eucalyptus microcarpa woodland. Most of that habitat has been cleared or replaced by feral vegetation along the Hills Face Zone so it's wonderful to learn of the regeneration.
And welcome to the forum!
Hi Woko,
Thanks for the suggestion, I contacted Birds SA today and have sent off the rare bird sighting form and my pics. I knew I was lucky to have spotted him but I didnt realise just how lucky!
Good one, Mother Hen. Birds SA is always happy to receive unusual sightings. Of birds, that is!
Thanks Woko,
Do you know what other species are considered unusual sighting in the Mt Lofty Ranges and surrounds?
So many of the woodland birds of the Mt Lofty Ranges are endangered now, Mother Hen. This link has a list of the threatened species:

Welcome MH and green with envy for your Flame Robin
Look forward to more of your photos and sightings
Cheers
Thanks for posting that link. Really interesting to see what's there.
Hi and welcome! Great find with the flame robin. In my short time birding in earnest, I've never seen one. Bit of a hidden gem!
Sad how long that list is, Woko. Interesting reading though.

I believe that's a Rose Robin, Mike. Flame Robins used to visit areas in & around Adelaide but, alas, no longer.
Yes, the list is long & growing longer. Some efforts are being made to restore habitat. E.g., I note that a number of Adelaide's new traffic corridors feature indigenous vegetation & Trees for Life are doing great work in encouraging restoration of indigenous plant species. Unfortunately, I fear that habitat destruction still outpaces habitat restoration. And we can never completely replace natural habitats anyway.
Yes, rose robin, sorry! Seems I should lay off the late-night posts! Cheers for the correction and I'll try to engage the ol' brain a bit more in future
