Beautiful bird, aren't they? Surprisingly small though
Yes spectacular birds. They seem rather gregarious birds often perched in little groups on branches and even in little groups on the ground.

Thanks Tim - I went back today and found them in same place in the south west section of the park between Old Pitt Town Road and Saunders Rd. Seems to be one of the best sections of the park for abundance and variety of bird life. I also found some dusky woodswallows down there which I have only seen once before.
Nice find WD. We have them at home at the moment. There is a wild bee hive in an old tree nearby and these birds and some White-breasted Woodswallows arrive most afternoons to feed on the bees. Maybe your birds are aware of a hive nearby?
It's been a very quiet Rainbow Bee-eater season here on the s.e. slopes of the Mt Lofty Ranges in SA. I've seen none & heard a couple on three well separated occasions. So far, I've attributed this to the extremely dry conditions we've had here.
Nice find. They are a great looking little bird. That second shot is very typical of them siting in a small group. It;s interesting you say you haven't sited many down there lately Woko. Reflex & I discovered a new sopt a few weeks ago and we had both never seen so many Rainbow Bee-eaters and Chestnut-Breasted Manikins.

It's been a fairly good year for them here on the NSW mid-north coast too. More rain = more insects = more Bee-eaters, I suppose.

Nice sighting and shots! I should go and try to find them, I've never seen them anywhere near Sydney.
