Yass, NSW - this little guy flew in and sat on a chair just 2m from me this morning, at first I thought baby kookaburra but having googled a bit I think I'm wrong. Any ideas?

It's definitely a juv. Butcherbird. I think Grey Butcherbird, but I could be wrong - Pied is the other option.
Thanks :)

Actually I think maybe with that white neck collar going all the way around it might be a Pied.
Anyways, it's a butcherbird :)
Hi Andrew, I agree and think it is a Grey rather than Pied Butcherbird. The lighter spot between eye & beak and the barring seem more typical of the Grey. The extent of the neck collar is not so clear. There is a picture of a juvenile Pied in the current photo challenge of Family Trio. You may find it easier to decide after viewing that.

Thanks so much, I'm leaning towards grey.

Grey Butcherbird - I believe that you can already see the white neck (from base of bill down) and this would already be showing as a bib on a Pied B - my pics here https://pacart.smugmug.com/Butcherbirds/

Yeah its a juvenile Grey Butcherbird. To add to pacman's comment, where you can see the grey barring on the belly in this photo would be white if it was a juvi Pied Butcherbird
