Powerful Owl with Flying Fox

So it's been about a year since I have seen a Powerful Owl so I thought I would go and see if the one I saw last year was around.

It was in the nearly the exact same tree as last year and had last nights meal in its talons.

Looks to be some sort of flying fox.

Nice work Devster, looks like it's falling asleep after a feed in the last shot :-)

Excellent photos ... great re-discovery. Been just over a year since i saw a powerful owl - so i will try the same approach and go back to same spot.

I like the last one too - with the talons clenched

Thanks for the comments guys. I find it hard to take good shots of these birds as they are usually in dark creek bed. I had to have the ISO cranked right up which is why ithey are grainy. I also only found one spot around the whole area where there wasn't an obstruction of leacves or branches in the way.

Nice Devon. You should have been pretty happy with that view

Better than a poke in the eye with a blunt talon :P

I wonder if it is the same bird as last year.

According to Pizzey & Knight they are known to occupy the same spot for roosting and breeding for several years. Might be worth a visit using a remote triggered flash so you don't get red eye.
