I managed to get this photo of one of the small birds that i have been seeing, its a terrible photo, but can anyone tell me what it is? Much appreciated.

It is a House Sparrow.
I'll second that, it's a male House Sparrow.
Thanks for that, it is just a bit bigger than a lot of the other small birds i see, i was hoping i had photgraphed one of the Australian natives.

Yep, that's a male House Sparrow, and a fine specimen too. When I'm never sure if a house sparrow is a house sparrow I look for the typical finch beak feature and the really long middle toe. I've seen some funky looking house sparrows around Tenterfield, NSW that you can actually mistake for another species - due to interbreeding I guess.
I'm at Tenterfield, NSW. (Formerly known as "Hyperbirds".)
Could they be tree sparrows, shirley?
The House Sparrows are dying out in many regions, many theories have been put forth.
