Apologies for being a day late everyone! I was at an environmental education centre yesterday with a large group of primary students. They are doing a project on Glossy Black-Cockatoos and I was taking them for some bird surveys.
The first 2 survey sessions were very quiet, but wouldn't you know it, for group 3, just as we were talking about how the Glossy Black's had not shown up for a couple of weeks - in came a pair that sat perfectly in a tree for the kids to have a great look at them! We were able to walk up a bush track and basically be at eye level with them! What an experience!!!!
So lets see photos of birds that are classified as Threatened/Vulnerable/Endangered etc either by the state or federally.
(despite how close we were, all I got was a blurry blob when I tried to get a photo with my phone)

Glossy Black-Cockatoo at Blackdown Tableland, QLD. Taken last week (August 2016). There was a group of them feasting on the she-oaks in our campsite. (my first posting here. I assume only one photo allowed?)
Hi EMH, welcome, love that photo. Usually for challenges, only on at a time, wait for some else to post and then go again. You can always post a few in best photos. Remember it is not a competition, just post what you think is your best or even some not so good ones. We just like to see others pics. Look forward to seeing more.

Masked Owl - Listed as Vulnerable in NSW, they are threatened in a few other states as well.
The Cape Barren Goose is listed as vulnerable in both NSW and VIC.
The Beach Stone-curlew is listed as Vulnerable in Queensland

Mallee Emu Wren are certainly endangered and not helped at all by the Victorian National Park burn off regulations.

With the environment receiving such a low priority from authorities at all levels one could be forgiven for thinking that all Australian bird species are endangered. Just because a species is seemingly abundant doesn't guarantee that extinction isn't just around the corner for it.
