Lotus Bird (Jacana)

Spent some time at the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens while minding our grandaughter this week. Lots of water at these lovely gardens and a wide range of water birds including the Lotus Bird, which has disproptional size feet and toes for its size. Interesting looking bird.

One of my favourite birds. Looks like you managed to get quite close.

Samford Valley Qld.

Thanks Reflex. Not as close as I would have liked. Used my point and shoot Canon that has a 1200mm lens so most shots were from at least 10 metres. Some from 30m.  Hence the lack of sharpness. They are pretty flighty, so spent a lot of time in a slow approach. Should have taken a monopod. Terrific bird though. Cheers.

Sure does. But a little on the conservative side for the Cup! Cheers Elizabeth.

Nice shots alcatraz. You are right they are hard to get close to. Did you use manual setting on your point and shoot?

Thanks Devster. No, I tried a few in manual mode but they were over-exposed, so I flicked it over to sport mode and they were taken at 1/1250 of a sec. Have decided to use the Canon sparingly and practice on improving with the Nikon DSLR with the 150 - 300mm lens with a 2x teleconverter. Just off to Cabbage Tree Point to practice in M mode on whatever is in the air. Cheers Murray
