Spent some at the Gold Coast Botanic gardens and was excited to see this Spoonbill. Every bird has a feature or some other part of its life that it is known for. The Spoonbill's is just that. It's bill dominates the bird and to see it in use looking for food is a wonder of nature.
I agree they are a magnificent tool.
I didn't know that the Gold Coast had a botanic garden. If I travel anywhere these days I always make a point of checking out the local botanic gardens.They usually have a good stock of local birds and sometimes some birds we don't see in Brisbane. I visited Gladstone and Bundaberg this year, both turned out to be top spots for birds and free to wander around.
The Egret in the last shot is a Great Egret. I'm keen to photograph these this year during the breeding months (Nov-Feb) when they develop a pea-green facial skin that is quite attractive.

Hi Reflex. The GC Botanic Gardens are in Ashmore Road, Benowa, opposite Benowa State High School. The other bird I spotted there and have put on this forum is the Lotus Bird (Jacana). Others include Darter, black swan, egret plus many others. Recently spent some time in Gladstone and found the mud flats near the power geneation station also carry a lot of interesting birds. I love watching these guys, they are even better when they are in breeding plumage and have their hairdoo.
