Got back to BHB last week for a short time with sunrise and tides in alignment and
all the usuals were having a great time preening and having a general tidy up.
Caspian and Crested Terns bathing, Pacific Gulls sunbaking and the young Silver Gulls looked gorgeous.
Grey Plover I had not seen before (NEW BIRD, YaaaY :-))and even showing a bit of colour. Very skittish and happy to be well out on the mudflats, pretty much as described in the books.
Great set. Some new ones there for me. That speckled eye is a bit creepy, is it common?

Thanks Ryu. Caught my eye as well, probably a third year bird, beautiful colouring.
Wonderful photos and especially the speckled eye. Such striking colours.
Great set of shots Rick ... always good to get a new one as well. The speckled eye is very striking as is that bright yellow bill and dark tip.
That speckled eye portrait is magnificent
While your immediately drawn to the eye, afterwards the beak almost looks like it been painted
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
Nice set as always Rick. We don't get the Pacific Gulls up here so they and the Grey Plovers would be new ones for me.Yeah that Gull shot is a cracker!
