If in Townsville, the Common is well worth a visit. I went early one morning and then returned late afternoon. Here are a few of the many different species around. I'll post the red-backed fairywrens separately. Sue
I think this is a Tawny Grassbird which is a new one for me.
Golden-headed Cisticola... love these little guys.
Finally a decent photo of a Brown-backed Honeyeater. The hide was at tree height.
Yellow Honeyeater checking me out.
Brush Cuckoo flew in and posed before coming even closer below.
Great variety, I had never heard of a Yellow Honeyeater!
Townsville Town Common currently ranks as the #1 site for the number of different species recorded in the whole of Australia on ebird

I had not realised that Ryu. It is a remarkable place and these pictures are only a few of the birds I saw there... Brolgas, Magpie Geese, various Egrets & Kites, various Honeyeaters, Mistletoe birds, Green Pygmy-geese, Pheasant Coucal, Black-necked Stork, Spangled Drongo, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Cuckoo-shrike, Jacana, Forest Kingfisher, White-winged triller, Nutmeg & Chestnut-breasted Mannikins, Red-brow & Double-bar Finches, Bush Stone-curlew, Satin & Leaden Flycatchers, various Cormorants, Grey & Rufous Fantails, Brush Turkey, Oriole, Pelicans, Olive-backed Sunbirds, White Ibis ... the list just keeps on going. On other visits I have seen another selection. A really magic place

Great set Sue
Yellow Honeyeater certainly is striking
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
What a lovely selection of birds! A few of which are still on my 'to-see' list.
Beautifully captured Sue!
Sounds like a great place to go. There were quite a few new ones on that list you mentioned. Actually 5 plus the 2 honeyeaters you took here. Lovely photos and a place I have to put on my ever growing wish list. At this rate the list is growing but there are none getting crossed off. Next Month Bowra will be crossed off, but I'm sure I will want to go again!
Bowra is on my wish list. I look forward to some wonderful pictures, enjoy.

Beautiful photos and another place to add to my wish list.
Great list of birds and excellent photos. To think I spent 12 months living in Townsville pre birding days :-(
Alas, I wish that I had started taking photos much earlier. I saw my first White-browed Crake at the Common some years ago. Thanks all for the comments.
