Black bird White Spot under wings

Hi I was looking for help identifying a bird please. I saw a few of them just before dusk today in Camden NSW. They were medium size like a small falcon. They looked black or very dark but the most identifying feature was a large single white spot under each wing. They were kind of soaring about above the Nepean river at gum tree height. It looked like they may have been catching insects on the wing but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, well that sounds like a Dollarbird to me! Did it look like this?

Not my photo, just one off google, but I thought it might help you visualise it :)

Hope this helps, others should be able to offer other suggestion if this is not right.

Wow that's it :) I've never heard of them or seen one before. Thanks Elsie.

Great! The Dollarbird is a migrant, they come here for the summer, here's the birds in backyards page about them. Very helpful and lots of information!
