I woke early last Saturday and despite all the plans to work in the garden I decided to leave the mowing until Sunday and grabbed the camera and headed off. I ended up at Sandy Camp Road Wetlands Reserve. I've been here plenty of times before and have always found something interesting. This area is known for the many species of birds among a range of environments, including the reed beds, open water, scrub and grassy areas. Among other birds I also found some Brown Quail and a Pacific Baza.
It's a great spot for Chestnut Breasted Mannikins.
Pacific Baza.
Brown Quail.
Little Pied Cormorants come and go all the time.
A regular find but good to capture one in flight showing the Blue/teal colours on the wing.
Great set of birds John. Love that Quail standing poroud.
Great set, Rick. Certainly seems like a worthwhile decision :)

Great shots. Easy to justify birding if the weather is good.

Excellent shots, yet to get a Mannikin or Baza.

The colours on the chestnut breasted Mannikins are amazing, that blue bill.

Yes indeed such a fantastic blue beak
Great set , stunning shot of Pacific Black duck
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
They are crackers John. I particularly like the Quail shot. Don't normally see them standing tall like that.
Beautiful stuff, John!
I'll have to get back down there before or after work one of these days, as I work kind of nearby.
Cheers

Beautiful set of shots John, certainly worth the trip & the lawn can always wait. Love the mannikins in particular, one I haven't seen yet.
Brian,
I don't think I have ever been there and not seen Mannikins, so this is a pretty safe spot to visit if you really want to see one. Getting a good photograph is a different task altogether.
There are plenty of good spots in or around the great South-east to see these.

Rick said to say Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up John, it's only a short drive for me to SE Qld, another spot to add to the list.
Not again! I'm sure I've done this before- maybe it was the other way round last time?
Rick and Reflex are too similar- they both have a re sound.

Was going to put up this image of a Chestnut-breasted mannikin later, but with John's shots and the comments thought it best to post here as it was taken at another wetlands, Eagleby wetlands, south of Brisbane - half way to the Gold Coast - and another spot to capture this beautiful little bird. Great shots by the way John.
