Tawny Frogmouth on the nest

Five weeks ago discovered this nest at Jacobs Well, north of the Gold Coast, with a Tawny Frogmouth sitting on egg or eggs. Returned today to take a look and found the egg was no longer and a beautiful new Tawny was there next to mum. Hard to photograph is was high in a tree with only one spot to take images. Got one shot of the pair of them plus some nice shots of the parent.

Took me ages to notice the tiny chick in the nest. I was trying to work out which of the Tawnys in the 4 photos were young... of course with little success!

Hi Ryu, I notice your tag of quality pics with a bridge camera. These were taken with my Canon SX50HS which is a bridge camera and, I think, is an excellent backup for my long lens camera, which has no where near the reach. I try to guess which task in birding suits which camera. When in doubt I take both! Glad you found the chick. I will try and update this in a couple of weeks. Cheers Murray.

Great photos ... love those yellow eyes.

(i started out with Canon SX50 for bird photography, can get some really good pictures with it too when conditions are in its favour)
