Hi to all,
a quick intro.
I am John I live in Perth's northern suburbs.
I have been intersted in birds from my early teens, in the UK.
Now of greatly more mature years I am still there watching birds when ever I am outside the house.
I do not bird watch as such, but tend to observe the birds where ever I go.
Take the dog a walk, take my bins.
Take the grankids to Yanchep, take my camera.
On holidays, the same.
I find you guys very knowledgable and friendly and happy to share you photos and experiences.
My other hobbies also mesh with birdwatching.
Golf, many lovely birds on Carramar golf course, and other local courses.
Photography, oportunities to take pics of birds, although this can be very difficult.
I tend to use a bridge camera with a long lens,1200mm, for birding.

Welcome to the forum, John. Yes, it doesn't matter where you go there's invariably something of interest in the bird world. I'm particularly interested in your comment about golfing & bird watching.
Golf courses can be great habitats for a variety of animals - even alligators in Florida, it seems. The planting & restoration of swathes of indigenous vegetation by golf course developers can certainly help local wildlife populations survive. As well, they can also develop healthy wetlands for wildlife & golf balls. Plantings of indigenous aquatic vegetation in the wetlands provide the additional benefit of cleaning fertilizers & pesticides from the water run off from the greens.
So, if golf course developers & managers put their minds to it they could provide wonderful open spaces, habitats & wildlife corridors midst the suburban gloom - not to mention adding a wonderful new dimension to golf. Of course, some have done this & they provide an excellent model for others to emulate.
Just got back from 9 holes at Carramar.
The hot days seem to keep the smaller birds in the shade.
Hundreds of Maned Geese, and one Square tailed Kite, who is a regular siting.
Last week I had a wonderful display of a Hobby hunting over several holes.
Was that in Hartford, Hereford or Hampshire, John?

Actually, I was appreciating your alliteration with "Hobby hunting over several holes". But knowing the location is always handy, too.
