With the summer heat keeping many birds out of sight have been spending some time at the beach near home at Rocky Point and Cabbage Tree Point on southern Moreton Bay. Found this stunning little Bar-tailed Godwit hanging out near some gulls at Cabbage Tree Point. Did some research and found the longest ever recorded non-stop flight by a land bird belongs to a Bar-tailed Godwit - Alaska to NZ, a distance of 11,500 km. Amazing! Don't know how far this one flew in his migration, but it's fair to say thousands of kms also.
A bird I would love to see
