Had a bit of trouble getting an ID on this bird as its plumage looks totally different to a previous Striated (Mangrove) Heron I snapped some time ago. I believe this is a juvenile. Just love the way it stalks its prey, getting down so low before striking. This was taken on mudflats at Rocky Point on southern Moreton Bay. The last shots before I made significant changes to my settings which I hope will add a lot more detail to my images.
Love the first one ... great shots.
They have incredible necks that shrink down and also extend a long way when they strike for a fish.
Good luck with the new settings
Great photos, they are extraordinary looking birds. I have not known i was looking at the same bird sometimes, it appeared different.
