Rainbow bee eater. Sometimes the fly off extremely gun shy, other times they carry on like i'm not there. still pleased to see them, surprised to see they can still find food in this shocking drought.
they were feeding on wasps and bees.

Thanks Elizabeth, they are hard to spot but they have a distinctive loud call which is how i know they are nearby.
About 50 of them used to roost in a small tree near here. It was only about 4 meters high and it was amazing to see them all packed in this tiny isolated tree. Yet nearby were plentiful forest giant eucalyptus. This was before the digital camera era and i don't have photos of it.
I've been left speechless. Its beautiful. There's no other word for it.

The fill light was a canon 600 ex rt flash. Photo shot in Raw and processed in Lightroom/paintshop pro.
