Hi everyone,
I hope you've all keep keeping dry on the east coast, that was a pretty wet weekend! Great photos of spotty birds last week, a bit of a slow one, so let's see if this next one drums up a bit more action - "studio worthy" otherwise known as the portrait challenge. So all those pics where it just looks like that bird was posing for a headshot or portrait.
Happy snapping,
Monica
Here's a poser or two.

Portrait of a breeding Pelican.
This was the first time I had been able to photograph the breeding colours of the bill and pouch.
During the courtship period, the bill and pouch of the birds change colour dramatically. The forward half of the pouch becomes bright salmon pink, while the skin of the pouch in the throat region turns chrome yellow. Parts of the top and base of the bill change to cobalt blue, and a black diagonal strip appears from the base to the tip. This colour change is of short duration, the intensity usually subsiding by the time incubation starts.

Dang that's one serious looking Albatross you got there Reflex :) - looks like a bit of a swell behind him, my place would be all over the shot taking that one in moving waters, super shot!
Thanks Devster, I should have mentioned he/she was a captive, so had nowhere to run and hide. Actually, he was a bit too friendly and he kept moving towards me as I moved away - given I'm seriously out of practice I kinda forgot I don't need my lens wound all the way out all of the time and hence probs a too shallow DOF. I was just happy his eye was in focus lol, gosh I had more than a few duds that day. I adore Emu's, have never seen two with the same hairdo.
Gee you're a whiz at those white birds, I struggle with the basic with the white ones.
Enjoying everyone's contribs so far this past week!
Here's a face perhaps only a mother could love, although I find them very interesting..portrait of a (captive) Turkey.
