strange request

Hi, While out looking for birds to photograh, I often hear what sounds like someone is hitting a metal pole with a spoon -- three or four times in a row. I suspect it is an insect of some sort, or it might be a bird. Has anyone heard this and knows what it is? Thanks. Greyson, Beenleigh, Qld.
