Have spent three weeks house and dog minding on the Gold Coast and spent some time on streams in the Merrimac Floodplains near Mudgeeraba. Terrific spot for waterbirds. Comb-Crested Jacana, Black Swan, Magpie Goose, Pied Cormorant, Plumed Whistling Ducks, Pacific Black Ducks, Darter, Great Cormorant, White-bellied Sea Eagle and Pied Cormorant.
Nice
Wonderful, alcatraz. It's also wonderful to learn that there are still wetlands near the Gold Coast.
Yes, but only because they are a wetlands in a floodplain. Otherwise the former Albert Shire would have developed the entire hinterland. As it is they allowed development on the floodplain which is another name for a drainage system through the Coast for floods that happen inland around Mudgeeraba. Thankfully there is still a lot of green behind the glitter strip and this Merrimac area is wonderful for a lot of fairly common water birds as well as raptors. Cheers.
Great variety. Did not realise there was still a wetland there

Excellent collection of photos ... wonderful birds, scenes and colour - great stuff. I particularly like the Jacana and the pair of ducks.
Great shots! Crows love Sea Eagles.
Great set mate, always good to see the WBSE
Dont take life too seriously, it never ends well
Thanks Sue. We were dog/house sitting near there and I went about 6 or 7 times over Christmas NY. I was the only bird snapper there on all those occasions!
Thanks WD. Jacana is one of my favourite birds.
Thanks Greyson. They sure have an on-going dispute!
Thanks mate. Yes, terrific raptor.
Been out of action a bit.
Loved these photos, well done alcatraz
Thanks Devster. Hope all is well!
