Nice one, Dashing. Not knowing better, I wonder if that's a Pied Butcherbird. Knowing where you live might help confirm or otherwise.
We spotted this bird in Byron Bay. We often see Pied Butcherbird around but don't think that's the one. Here is another recording of the mystery bird https://youtu.be/SexpfnyYIB4 . We still don't know what it is, can anyone identify it?
I wondered if it was a Pied Butcherbird because the species seems to have a variety of calls. I remember hearing one imitating, if that was what it was doing, the first part of the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
How amazing are they? Maybe you are right guys, Pied Butcherbird can mimic sounds and other birds, maybe it heard an opera or orchestra playing and remembered this song. Now it comes around and sings it to us each morning! What legend! Thanks so much for helping to identify it!
