Southern Emu-wren

Love these little ones and as this male was so cooperative, here are a couple more shots. Lake Wollumboola,Culburra Beach, NSW

Wow stunning shots of a tiny bird. Yet to see one, not for the want of trying.

My son came home from taking photos at a century old cemetery (he likes all the wrought iron), with a photo with maybe 1/2 a dozen of the little blighters in the shrubbery (all natives). Unfortunately the pic was not of good quality, but you could clearly identify the S. Emu-wrens.

They are gorgeous little birds with those wispy tail feathers. The male has the blue throat while the female is the same as body colour. I had a couple appear beside me as my camera sling squeaks a little... it must have sounded like their call which is quite high-pitched. One day, you will find them, Dale and I'm sure you will enjoy the experience.

Oh wow Sue - great shots! I'm not sure if people know how difficult these guys are to photograph - they are normally notoriously shy and very difficult to see, let alone photograph. I've only seen them once, and had the typical experience of them popping up briefly and then disappearing into the long grass again never to be seen again. What an amazing opportunity, and you made the most of it with some superb shots - just lovely. Well done! You must have been pretty excited :-)

Thanks Alex. I have seen them a number of times and they are special so I was very happy. You have to anticpate their moves a little and be ready for the shot and I took so many pictures just to get these!

Stunning stuff again, sue. It's great to have these photos to remind us of the exquisiteness (if that's the word) of what we're losing to human development & climate change.

Sadly true, Woko. We reluctantly trimmed our Bottlebrush in September as long overdue and not blossoming well only to find our neighbour had to remove a very tall Silky Oak which was dying. Now a bare patch in the yards and a lot more sky around but at least the surrounding Sydney Red Gums are flowering profusely (also very large trees).

According to Mr Google... exquisiteness - extreme beauty of a delicate sort... so apt!

Not sure if you have been following the Big Year Challenges, Woko but well worth a look at some amazing birds seen this past year especially by Dev.
