Very Fancy Karen. I like it!

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Ha ha thanks Dev!

It is supposed to let me embed the image here using html <img> tag but I can't seem to get that to work, I must have the syntax wrong somehow.

Anyway the link will always show latest stats (provided I've updated the sheet).

Oh, that is great, Karen.

I'm hoping to pick up my pace over the next couple of weeks and Dev has now made a start so the race is on... will be really interesting to see how we all go this year as the start is impressive!

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Yes I just added Dev's birds to the sheet and the graph above has automatically updated :-).

Oh fabulous Karen, love the graphic representation and auto update, that makes an excellent leaderboard! Thank you.

I'm going to take a slow but steady approach this year so don't let my dismal standing at the moment fool anyone :P (and note that last year's winner is currently at the back - not for long I suspect...)

dannyka6
dannyka6's picture

Love the graph and thanks for keeping the stats! It's fun to keep an eye on

Hey all, I've added the 'Species seen by all but one' chart, which we used last year to see if people may have missed a common species. It shows species that only one of us hasn't recorded. It will update in the chart in the post above automatically whenever I update the list.

Devster
Devster's picture

Thats awesome thanks Karen. It really does help and shows species you guys get down there that I don't up here like Red Wattlebird

Thats very cool! Thanks Karen.

  Great work Karen!

Here's the first stats post, as at 12th January 2021. If anyone has any specific stats request, please let me know and I'll see what I can do :-).

The official stats records are here:

That really helps Karen, great work again. Thank you.

Brilliant Karen, I like that addition! Funny that two of the birds I'm missing from that list are the Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo and the Australian King Parrot... they were both daily visitors at the last place I lived! Now I'm going to have to go find them.

One thing, my count seems to be 1 less than it should be. I think you do the stats on fact sheets? I couldn't find one for the Common Greenfinch so maybe that's it. My list in the document is ok, it's just the graph that is down by one.

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Hi Tom, sorry I just checked the list, it looks like Pied Currawong is in there twice? At number 48 and number 71. The stats just does a unique count so would have only counted that once.

TommyGee
TommyGee's picture

Sorry Karen, you're completely right. My mistake! I totally forgot I already had a Pied Currawong when I posted that one. See, you turn 50 and straight away you start forgetting things :)

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Ha ha yep I know, same thing happened to me last October :-). Mind you I was forgetting things well before 50....

And happy birthday!

Thanks, although it was in June last year :) I've been forgetting things for a while too!

Ah 1970 was a good year!

Thanks for the stats and the graphs, looks fabulous! Always something to work towards :)

Oh, if only I could wind back that clock!

Devster

Just wondering if there were any updated Stats

sue818
sue818's picture

Hi Dev,

just go back to the first post and cick on the link for latest stats. They should be correct as Michael's was added the other day. There is plenty of info there.

Devster
Devster's picture

Thanks Sue, I didn't realise that. Thats awesome! Thanks Karen

sue818
sue818's picture

No problem , Dev. Karen has done an amazing jobsetting this up and there is so much info available. I help out with listing the sightings if she is busy as it is easy to use.

The post from 17th March with the tables and charts is automatically updating, it has a 'live' connection to our stats sheet that Sue and I update. I can't figure out how to pin that post to the top of this page though, that would be useful.

dwatsonbb
dwatsonbb's picture

There you go Karen, I have pinned it to the top, hopefully all will see, right at the top (hope that's what you wanted)

Thanks to you and Sue for putting the work in.

Thanks Dale! I was trying to get the post from 17th March (the one that has embedded charts and graphs in it) to show in the top of this thread, but I'm not sure that's possible? Those charts and graphs will automatically update whenever we update the sighting list.

Great to have this thread pinned though, and maybe I can just update the first post in the thread to have the charts in it....

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

I've been able to do that, I updated the first post in this thread so now the post is pinned (thanks Dale) and the first post contains the latest stats :-)

Alex Rogers

Nice work, its great to see these stats progressing - thanks for the effort again, Karen, and Dale for pinning it.

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

And thanks to Sue for updating the tallies!

Note sometimes the bar chart will be out of sequence, I need to periodically re-sort it when tallies add up. I have done that today.

Devster
Devster's picture

I think I broke the stats as I have been removed from the graph. :(

sue818
sue818's picture

Oh my, I hope I did not do it! No idea how to fix that part, Dev... have to leave it to Karen. Clever girl doing these amazing worksheets. I can update lists but that is the extent of my knowledge.

sue818
sue818's picture

I just did the stats and at present we have photographed 40% of the bird species listed on the current Working List of Australian Birds! Not too shabby considering lockdowns and the conditions of the past year.

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Oh wow that is pretty impressive for a small bunch of people :-). Shall I set up a sheet for us for 2022?

sue818
sue818's picture

I think that would be great assuming the Working List is not going to be updated anytime soon. Perhaps Holly may know that answer.

Not as far as I am aware Sue

And congratulations Devster! 2021 Bragging rights go to you (and a little prize pack as well)

sue818

Thanks, Holly. Karen has set one up & it does make things much easier. Clever girl!

karentwemlow

Thanks Sue!

And congrats Dev, fantastic tally for 2021 :-)

Alex Rogers

Well done Dev! A great total again, and in a lockdown year! Congratulations.

And well done to all of you who played - so good to see all your regional birds while I was stuck in NSW (if not stuck in my house!) - it made my year so much fun to participate in this little comp, and seeing all of your birds. So many fantastic birds.

Thanks to Karen for this leaderboard and admin work, and Sue for your assistance with it - had been great to see the "race" develop over time, and as a numbers geek, its been cool to see other aspects of the stats as well. Appreciate the work!

Special mention to Dale for the incredible number of unique birds - those pelagics have been an eye-opener - well done mate :-)

Holly, thanks for accommodating us here :-)

And so cool to see new players joining through the year - Abby, Michael, Tom and little Leo ;-) Hope you all enjoyed it and will play again in 2022.

Soooo - lets do it again! I know Abby is out there busily stacking up new birds - lets get cracking! Karen, are you good to open a new thread for 2022 stats? And for the rest of us - you know what you need to do :-)

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

Thanks Alex, yes I'm in again for 2022! I've created a spreadsheet for recording our sightings and shared with Sue. I will create the Stats post too.

karentwemlow
karentwemlow's picture

I've created the 2022 Stats post, can someone pin it or let me know how to do that? Thanks :-)

Thanks again to all, looking forward to 2022 (I am about tom start).

Well done Dev.

Special thanks to Karen and Sue for keeping the stats updated.

Right lets get into it!

Devster

Thanks guys not only for the comments but for your contribution as well. So great to see so many different varieties of birds from all around the country, despite being locked down. If lockdowns stay lifted I can see my tally being but a drop in the ocean for some of you. All the best for The Big Year 2022!! Oh and yes a special thanks to Karen and Sue for their hard work on the stats! Much appreciated
