28's are what we in W.A call these parrots in other states they are called ringnecks, very common bird but i was more then happy the way this one turned out.
tell me when you are going there and i will try and meet up with you.

Very funny Raoul :) But have you ever found yourself, as I have, trying to sound out the description of a bird call and make it sound like the bird yo are listening to? I find very often that they don't resemble the translations at all.
I wondered why they were called 28s too, after the post with the pair of ringnecks and the pair of rainbow lorikeets. My favourite bird book, The reader's digest complete book of Australian birds says '... the large southwestern birds give a strident trisyllable variant of the contact call sounding like twenty-eight, the last note at higher pitch, hence their local name - Twenty-eight parrot.'
very good details mate! spot-on shot
btw, i'll be visiting herdsman lake one of these days, they said that it's a nice place for birding :)

Nice shot Raoul, nice looking parrot. I guess I could google it, but I'll ask U instead, " why are they called 28's please?"
VJ
I read that it is because their call sounds like 28 ...28 vernJ.

Raoul...very nice shot mate, top effort.
Who ever said their call sounds like 28 must have been drunk or on drugs, nothing like it.
But yes i have read that also...
