This afternoon the Indian ringneck parakeet dropped in - she seems to get on well with the native birds. I got a photo a few days ago of a sulphur-crested cockatoo with its crest up - wild ones only seem to put the crest up for a second or two

You are so lucky to have them all drop in, birdgirl, they appear to be quite comfortable about sharing the tucker - I guess they've figured, "plenty more where that came from, so why fight over it."

I'm trying to work out some feeders hanging here as the possums clean up all the seed at night and if I'm not up early enough the king parrots miss out.
I first saw the ringneck before Christmas 2 or 3 years ago. The pet shop in our suburb has them in green, blue, yellow and white, so I suppose one escaped at some stage - probably from a customer. She seems to be very healthy and is surviving well - lucky she is green so she can blend in with the lorikeets. We never know when to expect her, but she has stayed around all these years so she probably visits more than we think

We have had possums eat seed too, so I know they like it. A possum can get into quite a small feeder with a roof. Our feeder is on a pole (made from an old swing set) in an clothes line footing. But we don't have any possums - not enough good trees and we have metal fences

They chased an owlet-nightjar out of a hollow log I but up I might have to put them on pipe to.

Here is our feeder (with 4 different parrots!). It really is the children's old swing set. It is in the middle of the lawn so a possum or cat could not jump onto the trays. The giant candles banksia on the right and the pink surprise grevillea on the left are each at least 2m away and we can swivel the main pole in the clothes line footing to move the tray around (good for photography depending on where the sun is)
