Can't see why they are called crested terns,....only kidding, great work Tark.It is one thing I miss living here in Townsville....we get a few terns and then.. Silver Gulls, lovely birds but I do miss the range of gulls that colder climates seem to have.

Hi ed, I was reading up on Terns; they are a nomadic species. These are the first I've seen since I started looking less than a year ago. There was a quite large flock with an odd silver gull among them - obviously they are a very social animal. Note the last shot in which two appear to be 'billing' each other - no idea as to what that was all about but they were the only pair that did so.

Now living in Townsville you can't expect to have all the best birds to yourself you know! :-) Thanks mate.

George - these are the only terns I've ever seen so I really can't compare them. I have seen some posted here but only in real life and through my camera lens am I able to remember them. Seeing is believing I suppose. Thanks mate.

Well mate, from what I've seen of yours and ed's postings, I'd have to say that you are showing us a very diverse range of birds, most of which I've neither seen nor heard of! As for that steel delivery that left you short of time to visit Ross River Dam, get your priorities right mate, tell 'em the highway was flooded, you got delayed mate! LOL

Hi Tark, if only it was that easy, seven and a half hours to load and 5 hours to get home,I was glad to get out of the joint.
I saw a lot of Zebra finches in Townsville thats a fair sign of just how dry it is getting out west.
I have to admire you truckies - must be a bloody hard life, yet I can understand how it could get in your blood. I s'pose you listen to John Williams on the player and talk to your mates on the CB as the old blue hills roll by - stop at roadhouses, chat up blond waitresses, yeah, a hard life but someone's gotta do it. And the whole country has gone to the dogs mate, too little or too much rain. We've had the wettest year since records began, and NSW is has already had bushfires, Victoria likewise. But Cormorants still catch fish.
