Pelican

Returning to where we saw a wedge-tailed eagle Sunday, I waited in my car for 4 bloody hours today and saw nothing but a passing pelican! At least it was warm and sunny and Print Radio RPH was good.

Sorry to hear that you were unsuccessful, Tark. The Pelican is a good consolation. I love their large bill and eyes. I hope you're successful next time, mate.

Oh well mate I hate to say it but you do get that.
Nice shot of the Pelican champ.

HI Tark
LOL I can just see you with the seat back news paper on the wheel and eyes closed dreaming off all the birds in the sun top stuff LOL.

George, Tassie, dingo, thanks mate - as you say, Pelicans are nice and not to be sneezed at even if they are in less challenging abundance. And there were also a couple of swans messing about. The only difference between a weed and a wildflower is prevalence.

The swans are beautiful Tark! Worth your wait.

Reminded me of myself in the Wetlands this week - straight out of the car I saw a Swamphen with a frog dangling from it's mouth - great shot. Camera still in bag!! While busy doing closeups a Lapwing took off from the water in front of me - camera on wrong setting!!! Geez - this bird photography is stressful at times!! LOL.

Thanks Lyn, I know EXACTLY what you mean about the "wrong setting". Hopefully, I'm learning to be more predictive as I get to understand more about bird behaviour and although I've lots of photographic experience, you have obviously been watching and studying birds for much longer than I.
.
I'm try to set my camera up according to what I'm 'expecting' to see or to happen - we know there's always going to be that element of unpredictability with bird photography - win some, lose some, inevitably. As our birding / camera skills develop the wins should start to outweigh the losses - at least that's my theory! :)
