I've just returned from a trip Newcastle > Broken Hill > Wilpena Pound > Oodnadatta > Mount Dare > Birdsville > Bowra Station, Cunnamulla > Bourke > Newcastle.
Fantastic to experience the Simpson Desert after rain and see the vast numbers of birds making the most of the conditions.
Orange Chat
Bourke's Parrot
Black-tailed Native Hen
Spiny-cheeked Honeyeater
Brown Falcon
Spectacular birds magnificently photographed.

Thanks Tark - it was a wonderful opportunity to get close to fantastic birds.
How was your trip undertaken, privately I would assume - and did you go it alone with a friend or as a group?
I visited the Simpson years ago after the rains; Sturt Peas in abundance and breathtakingly beautiful.

A local hiking group the Watagan Wanderers organized it - there were three vehicles, eight people.
The peas are amazing flowers - this was beside the road -
fantastic stuff, marj.
I especially love the orange chat and bourkes parrots..

cheers,

Beautiful Marj - It must have been a fantastic trip.
What a beautiful set of shots, Marj. Makes me feel like jumping in the car and going. The desert pea is my favourite desert plant. I have successfully grown them here in Melbourne to bring a little of the desert to our part of the world.

HI Marj
All I can say is THANKS and every thing the rest had said top photos there.
Love the shots Marj. How many birds did you end up seeing on your trip?
We saw 142 bird species, which I was pleased with as only two of the eight people were birders and we were driving from 8:00am to 3-4:00 pm each day. Of these around 40 were new birds for me.
I had a minor disaster - I was downloading from the cameras' cards to my laptop and it died on the last day of the trip. I was only able to recover around 2/3 of the photos. Most of those lost were on the camera with the birding lens.
Thanks Marj. I winced when I read the second paragraph, but at least that's a reason to go back and do it again!
Love your stunning Sturt Pea ground shot, just as a bird would see it.
