In spite of yesterday's perfect weather it just wasn't my day. I was on the Alum cliffs track at 7:00am hoping to spot a Sparrowhawk like one that I posted recently. On entering the reserve a gorgeous little green bird with bright yellow eyes perched on twig nearby. Raising my camera all I could see was the black backside of the lens cap. Three hours exercise later I was back at my car with no bird pics, so I thought I'd give the reservoir a go. Parked beneath a tree to eat my chips, a Scarlet Breasted Robin perched on my rearview mirror and studied me through the glass; my camera of course was in the boot - the rest is history. At least the Wood Ducks were a consolation.

Never mind Tark, beats watching tv. Wood ducks are always good backup.

Lmao mate,what a disaster of a day.
If its any consolation I had a similar one with work.
Nice shots of the Woodies mate.
bush and Tassie - C'est la vie!
But right now I'm focused on a solo December / January trip to the big island, VIC, NSW, maybe even a brief foray into QLD or SA. I figure that if teenybopper Jessica Watson can take on the challenge of circumnavigating the globe in a pretty pink yacht, then 5 weeks on the road by a septogenarian in a silver Pintara should be a cinch.

Hi Tark
While walking through the burbs the other morning I came across a pond/ drain that the woodies have been frequenting for a long time. The council have dug it out and at first I thought it looked ugly but now the reeds are growing back and the water is lovely and clean again and the woodies have 4 lovely ducklings . I only had my phone so I hate to think what the record looks like but if it is viewable I'll post it later. From the bridge, the parents perch and watch over their young, it was a delight to see.
Cheers

Hi birdie
To be honest mate, I've never noticed them before or if I have then I would have registered them as some kind of dove - such is my ingnorance of birds. Until they were on my monitor I hadn't noticed that they were ducks. Well, I am learning albeit s - l - o - w - l - y!

LOL Tark - To parody G & S - "A photographer's lot is not a happy one!"
I am still enthralled with my nesting Herons - but stand underneath them at your peril - Boy - have they got some output!! My patch of sweet peas directly under them is pure white!!
Lyn - "Taking one consideration with another," I'd say that's so! LOL

If you drive north from sydney Tark, take my advise and take the Putty Road, it took me 5 hours to drive 120km and that was before I bought the DSLR. On the Way back south take the coast road, some beautiful scenery on both.

Thanks bush - I haven't mapped out a proposed route yet mate, must consult the charts. After visiting my kids in Castlemaine and Wang', was thinking I should bypass Sydney. I'll be heading via Wagga, Cootamundra, Cowra to some rellies in Bathurst, then back via god knows where at this stage mate.
