Noosa Day Out

well the day started badly with no battery this morning but it sure got a lot better later on when we went out for a day at Noosa.

I heard some spectacularly loud calls in Noosaville and went to investigate and was soooooooo happy to find these very obliging noisy friarbirds having a feast

and then the big stare!!! .....

I can tell you I was rapt totally.
I know they are not pretty but somehow that is what makes them so fascinating.

Hi Birdie

Good to get so close to the live bird.
Great shots, especially of the eyes.

Now they're what I call close-ups, Birdie. I found this species very approachable, too.

Thanks guys
They were absolutely oblivious to me apart from the odd stare. I think they were trying to keep the juv blue faced H/e away. he was munching on the same trees.

Great stuff. They must be a lot more abliging down your way, I can't get near them at my place. It's a wonder I'm not glowing green with envy of someone getting that close to such a beautiful ugly bird.

Great shots Birdie.

Bloody bird flew off as soon as i got within 30 metres of it, and I was on the ground and it was in a tree! Resulted in an extremely bad photo, only just recognisable by the funny bump on its nose.

I must agree with the beautiful ugly thing, it kept me rapt when I saw it. The only bird I've ever got close too in the wild is a goose, and I think that's because the goose wanted to peck a bit off me!

One more thing, in the photo which is labelled, the big stare. I can't see the bump on its nose. Is this just me missing it on the screen? Or is it there?

I think one was a juvenile. i just read in Simpson and Day and it says that the knob is not there in the juveniles.
