Townsville Towncommon 24/10/09
This guy sittng in bushes overhanging the track to the hide that everybody visit. Not concearned at all by people passing by less that a metre away.It was in full view and you could have touch it if you wanted but people still walked passed without seeing it.

Strange that the bird was roosting so low. But it obviously was very calm.
As you say, many people do not "see" what is around them.
Your photo is a tribute to your observational skills.

oh wow what an incredibly beautiful bird (and photos) the first is my favourite, the bird looks as if its doing a 'supermodel' pose, over the shoulder. Really shows off its awesome back feathers. thanks for sharing.

good shots ed , the first time we were at the town common it was still smouldering,,,, must get back there the birds must be coming back or would i be better to wait for some rain, i know out here it is so dry

Amatuer, I never take shots of a bird as exposed as this one with people watching, I wait for them to see it themselves and/or pass by before I do, I rarely point out this type of bird (except to known or obviously very serious birders). You just never know what someone may do.
Joanneh, it is dry and drying very quickly, but the birds are there and the next couple of months before it rains is a good time for the rarer visitors to the common, Australian Pratincole this week.Alway worth a visit, normally I would say AM is best but have had the best PM visit ever just last weekend ...67 species (from 3 to 6pm)

wow sound sgood ed, we have only drove through the common once as it was burning we went round the road and seen the hide on the left . is that the only hide and can you give me some hints the best place to go in there for birds . i see we will have to do a trip through
