Heron Chick

Some of you may remember the White faced Herons nesting high in a gum tree in our backyard. Very hard to see the chicks and I think only one was raised and the day after I took these photos the family had gone! We enjoyed watching the nest building process and the extremely diligent parenting.

One of the Adult birds.

And the chick.

Amateur

Saw one of them today at golf, he was standing in the same area the whole game. Nice work to get the chick poking its head out.

Lyn, great to hear the up-date,great shot of a full breeding plumed bird, locally these birds will either let you walk up to them or more normally fly as soon as the see you.

same here Ed. Very wide comfort zone most of the time, especially when you are carrying a camera. Good on you Lyn, thanks for sharing, we would all like a heron to nest in our yard for sure.

Further update - and then there were 3! Look closely and you will see them. A nice surprise as I thought he was a singleton.

Thank you so much for commenting Choco - the 3 fledglings are still in the nest, growing well and it must be a very crowded house!
Here in SA we don't get the variety of birds the folks on the East coast get, so have to be happy with what we have!
I am hoping to get a shot of them all out of the nest, but am not sure if this will happen! I think they will all fly off fairly soon now.
