Rutherglen lake has water!

Hi just spent a lovely weekend in Rutherglen camping by what has been a dry lake for a year until the day we arrived, when the dusty lake gained a foot of water in a matter of hours, wow you should have heard the frogs partying all day and all night, brought in a few birds too much to my delight. masked eastern lapwing Grey Teal white faced grey heron Galah Brown Falcon?

Little Corellas Not sure... And along the Murray river, was lucky enough to see about ten rainbow Bee-Eaters in the trees doing what they do best... I think after looking in my field guide they were all juveniles? abscence of black neck ring at front and no streamers...

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Hi Nico, Rutherglen is in Northern Victoria.
Have you already moved to Queensland? it will be a big change for you.... all the best for settling in and making Australia your home. I did this 6 years ago and LOVE Australia...could never live back in the UK, can you believe they have SNOW today? brrrrrrr!!

Hi Hev, love your flight shots of the Brown Falcon.
Your "not sure" bird is a Brown Treecreeper.
Cheers,
al

Hi Al, thanks for that... I wouldn't have guessed treecreeper as it wasn't being 'treecreeper like' in it's behaviour... just sitting there on a branch, perhaps it was on it's lunch break!

Hi Hev, no, I haven´t moved yet, I think I will move there in 1 year, it all depends in the exams of odontology of my dad, he says they are really hard, but the hardest part is passed, because he only has to pass now one exam of odontolgy, and that is really easy for him because it is what he do everyday.
I think I won´t come back to Argentina, even for holidays, this country is a ....., you won´t progress here, so we are really ansious to move.
Best regards Nico

Yep, the no tail streamers is a sure sign of a juvenile, some other signs are the black eye has not developed into red and it's colours have not fully formed into the totally stunning array of coulours present on an adult bird, they are beautiful birds. Last year we had the birth of 2 baby masked lapwings at school and now you can see the 4 of them (the adults and juveniles) roaming the school. To my delight we have also had a grey butcherbird take residence at our school, I will be looking forward to taking some good snaps of it, it is a delight to hear at all times. Perhaps in science I can go and see it and say I'm using it for my ecology task :) Cheers.
