Hi everyone
Today I went out to look for birds of prey and sighted 7 at different places along Raymond Terrace Road! I managed to photograph 3. The first I saw flying over the cemetery as I was going to the model airfield (a great place to see BOP). I managed to pull over but it flew away before I could take a photo. My impression was that it was about as big as a whistling kite, but I thought I saw a white head. The whole underside also seemed to be speckled buff/fawn, without the classic pattern seen on the underside of the whistling kite. I went into the model airfield and saw a black-shouldered kite. I couldn't get close, so the photos aren't too good. I drove towards Raymond Terrace and saw several BOP on power poles or power lines. The second 2 BOP I photographed from inside the car. Luckily when I saw them I didn't have someone 10 cm behind me trying to make me go faster. I thought the BOP were all nankeen kestrels but was delighted to find that the 2nd one was an Australian hobby.

Nice set Birdgirl the hobby is still on my want list.
A Photo is only as good as the eyes that look at it.
Very nice shots Birdgirl, still waiting to see a Kite and Hobby.
NIce set Birdgirl,
Love the BSK adn the Nankeen Kestrel.
Went to Taronga Park Zoo today, and was really impressed when they released a wedge tail eagle and let it fly out over the harbour and swoop the crowd etc. That was my first sighting of one and of course the camera battery had failed by then. What an awesome free bird show to watch though with the harbour and the bridge etc in the backdrop. They had a barking owl too, barn owl, carnaby's cocky, red tailed blacks, sulphers, yellow tailed blacks, Really educational to see them seek out the prey etc. The owls were amazing .
Although it was in an aviary the most awesome bird I saw today, would have to be the South American Condor...... breathtaking to see a bird so huge.
Have some cool shots to put up from our trip down, but will have to do it when I get back.
Cheers
Birdie

lots of bop's there birdgirl and good clear shots :)
Great pics Birdgirl. The Hobby is great, I haven't seen one yet. The Kestrel shots are really clear too. But my favourite is the Kite, they are so cool.
Thanks everyone
Birdie I saw that show a couple of years ago and loved it. They do a similar one at Currumbin. We're hoping to go to the zoo next week. Hope you had a terrific holiday
Good on you Birdgirl, you have done well to get good shots of not one but 3 birds of prey in the one outing...well done.
Hi Birdie
We did go to the zoo and watched the bird show twice! It was almost all birds of prey so I loved it. The red-tailed black cockatoos at the end were stunning.
We also saw the most gorgeous baby elephant running after a duck!
Fantastic, I am glad it was as good for you as it was for us!
My daughter actually ran the battery out on my camera taking pictures of the baby elephant etc in the elephant show. That was why I missed my BOP shots at the end :(
