One day in Mosman Bay

Hello everybody,
This is my first go so I hope all goes well.
I have a new Lumix DLC FZ35 and am quite impressed with the optical zoom and stabilizer feature.
The cormorants were some 50 meters distant and moved away and took to the wing as soon as they saw me. The other subjects were not in any hurry to leave.
I am determined to get a snap or two of a Lewins Honey eater. I hear their calls all about but they seem to always be out of sight. Any tips?

I know exactly what I've done wrong! I've tagged the thumbnails instead of the full image so I'll have to start again!

I guess i need some help!!!!!!!!

Amateur

I'm not flash with flickr but I'll give it a shot
Tawny Frogmouths

Pied Currwaong

Noisy Miner

Kookaburra

And finally your little black cormorant

It looks like a wonderful place to visit! The photos are so clear and consice, looks like your new camera is the right one, about the Lewin's, don't ask me for advice, I've seen so many birds that just seemingly always avoid the camera in bushes or I miss them in open space. But I would suggest finding a spot with a nice view of the area surrounding you when you know they are around and giving maybe a half hour or so to wait for them to pop up into open space or maybe finding a tree they like to feed on, as feeding shots are awesome, and generally it makes them a little bit alert I tihnk. But I'm sure other members who seem to be able to get the perfect shots can help you out with that :)

Might I add I love the photo of the tawny frogmouths, they looks so beautiful and fluffy.

Great shots Nightowl.I love the Tawnies especially.
The Lumix cameras are lovely and sharp and obviously suited to birds as well.
The Lewins can always be heard but I find it hard to see them at times, as they are the same colour as the trees and are fairly shy. Lately around here anyway, I find the idea is to hang around a stand of banksias and you will find the birds turning up to feed, especially the smaller ones. Lewins are often in Eucalypts that are in flower too.

With regards to Flickr, you just need to click on all sizes once you have brought up the picture as the first one it shows you doesn't have properties attached and will result in just a thumbnail.
Once you have got the all sizes page I usually choose medium and then right click and copy "image location". Then paste that into the brackets on here.

Hope this helps

Dear Amateur
I am so grateful to you for rescuing me. You have shown much kindness and given so much of your time to do this for me. Thank you.
Thanks too for your encouraging comments on the pictures and for the advice on the Lewins Honeyeaters.
You have made my day.

Thanks Birdie,
The Tawnies were perched in a tree along a path not more than 100 meters from my home. Grey skies at the time. So on the first sunny day I returned to see if I could get a better picture or two. Or perhaps one showing their bright orange eyes. But they had gone, perhaps to another sleepy hollow!
Thank you for the tips on the Lewins.
Thanks also the advice on Flickr. I will try again in due course. Only problem is you run the gauntlet, on live stage as it were, with no dress rehearsals to ensure one gets it right! Eek! Everybodies watching.

No problems Nightowl...... there would not be one of us on here who has not tried and failed to post a pic at least once before getting the hang of it.
Just remember to use the square brackets with img in the middle to open , then paste address, then close the square brackets with a / in front of img.

It should be fairly straight forward. Flickr will work if you go thru to the all sizes page.

Simple !! :')

Keep trying

Beautiful shots Nightowl, Can I ask what setup you have used to take them they are really nice crisp shots....well done and thanks for sharing.

Tassie

Please disregard that stupid question I have just seen what camera you have.
I wish we could edit our posts sometimes.

Hi Tassie,
Yes! I am really happy with the DLC FZ35.
As you can see, I am having more difficulty posting the pictures than taking them!
