Hi folks,
I took the zoomed pic in my avatar in the Lerderderg State Park in Victoria a few months ago.
I saw a few more of these birds out in Marysville and Healesville today.
Are they a cross between a crimson rosella and a king parrot?
Thanks.
Juvenile crimson rosellas don't have much blue, they are mostly red and green. As they get older they get more blue until most of the green is gone and they become the familiar birds.
If you keep imagining strange hybrids you will have trouble with bird id! Remember, always start with the commonest birds, you hardly ever see rare birds, thats why they are rare.
Mhmm, immature Crimson Rosellas are green and change colours when they mature, it certainly is amazing that such a major transformation happens. Don't worry, you certainly aren't the first to make that mistake :)
Thanks for the response guys!
Young rosellas it is then!
