My catbirds have been very skittish with the Spring fever coming on. Yesterday I caught this one trying to call loudly to my neighbour's window, and today he was "clicking" loudly as he crept along my pool fence and lined up for a crack at his own reflection in my window. The click of my camera sent him veering off into the bushes, so he avoided a headache today!
I never tire of watching them, and have the video ready so I can capture the unusual sound as well next time.

A very unusual bird indeed.
I've only seen a Spotted Catbird up at Broadwater park in Abergowrie when I went to Ingham to see my Grandfather.
It is really hard to see them in the forest canopy because they are so green.
Good work Birdie.
just for the record Qldbird, this is a green catbird. I am blessed indeed that they have chosen my garden to hang out in!
I guess I won't be saying that in a few months when the howling starts in earnest at 4.30am LOL

I know I was saying that I've never seen one I've only seen a Spotted Catbird which is the species up North.
Wow, they're beautiful birds. I live down in Sydney and I thought I heard one, but they don't live down here, do they? Scared the cr*p out of me!
Yes it is an unusual sound. Actually they can be found in NSW, along coastal parts if it is a treed area.
they sound like a strangled cat! Also have a high pitched "chip" or clicking to one another when nearby one another in the bush.

they shore as heck can make a noise, run into the noise part of them in Smithslake nsw.
You are very lucky birdie to have such beautiful birds in your backyard. Your desciption reminds me of the muttonbirds on Heron Island - wailing like tortured babies all night long, but we missed them when we left
Nice ones Birdie. The noise is really going to start picking up soon.....lol.
Thanks guys. I love to listen to them, but I was disturbed to read somewhere the other day that they like to tear apart other birds nestlings to feed their chicks Seems like every bird I like locally has a nasty habit of some kind! (butcher birds, currawong, catbird, drongos, kookaburras!) It's a wonder any babies survive in my street at all!

Birdie,
Seeing a photo of a catbird (typically thought of as one of the more elusive rainforest species) on someone's pool fence (ie close to someone's house!) is just absolutely amazing to me.
I've seen a catbird only once, I think, so it's great to see your photos. I seem to remember that you've posted photos of / mentioned a couple of interesting birds that you get at your house, due to your location. How lovely.
Andy.
Hey Andy, good to see you dropping by. Yes, I am really lucky to have them. When I first got here they were the species that I most wanted to see after reading about them. I never dreamt that they would be moving in next door and waking me every day!
You still getting any bird watching done?
Cheers
