Hi folks,
Not sure if this category is the best place for it, but I wanted to post up photos of the new Rosella nesting box I built, which I installed a few hours ago.
.
After some research via the web and a few books I have, I eventually found a middle ground on dimensions and went with the design in the following link. http://www.sustainablebluemountains.net.au/localliving/more/files/Nestboxes.pdf
I made the lid long enough to allow for the myna baffle, but didnt actually add the baffle, with the hope that I won't need it.
Here are some images:
1. The (mostly) completed nest box.
.
2. The box filled with sawdust and wood shavings. (I eventually purchased some parrot mulch from a pet store as well).
.
3. With it's rain hat on - fashioned from some old galvanised iron scrap I had under the house.
.
4. Mounted in the tree, after an hour or two fiddling around.
.
5. Looking from my desk upstairs to the nest box.
.
The most amazing thing happened after I'd finished installing it, as I sat down here at my desk to upload the images and write this post. I heard a noise at the window, and sitting there about 1m away from me chirping and tapping on the glass was a Pale-headed Rosella, as if to say "Hi there, Thanks for building me a nest". Unfortunatey, my camera was hooked to the PC so I couldn't get a photo.
.
So they are definitely around at the moment, I just hope they actually find the box and choose to nest in it. :)
.
Cheers Tim
Try again with images 1, 2, 3.

Hey well done Timmo, you are a genius to get that done so fast!
The Pale Headed Rosellas are around my place at the moment too.
We will look forward to the continuing adventures of....
Sunshine Coast Queensland
The box looks great. Congratulations on building it so quickly and getting it up into the tree safely. In the past we have had parrots looking at the box as soon as it was put up, even once while the paint was still drying! They are very good at finding nesting boxes, especially if there is a shortage of nesting sites in your area
Thanks for the comments birdie and birdgirl.

I had another close encounter with (I presume) the same Pale Headed Rosella today. I was sitting at my desk and he came up to the other window this time, right in front of me and tap-tap-tapped on the window and kind of opened his mouth and wiggled his tongue at me. Again I was too slow with the phone camera to get a pic! D'oh!
.
Then he flew off to check out the box, so I have both sets of fingers crossed that I may be lucky enough to get some temporary residents.
Cheers
