I went out this morning to see if the whistling kites were nesting. I couldn't see anything in the old nests, or any new nests, but I could see the whistling kites flying far away across the road. I also saw 2 nankeen kestrels a bit closer - one has prey in the first 2 shots. I'd love to be able to get better shots, but I am usually quite far away and have cropped the photo so you can see what is in it
Like me Birdgirl, you will just have to wait for that long lens to become a reality! Nice looking bird aren't they?
I found the Brahminy Kites today, and their nest, what an awesome bird!
Also saw 4 Black Shouldered Kites sitting on different lamp posts on the side of the Sunshine motorway overlooking what was previously cane fields, but has now been cut. I was so tempted to pull over but that road is dangerous at the best of times up near Coolum so common sense prevailed.
