Rat Control!

Went outside one morning a while back and was met with this. Not sure if he ended up eating it as I had to go out. I think the rat was already dead but it was amusing to say the least as the kookaburra was tossing it about and he/she tried to fly off with it but couldn't. The amount of havoc they (rats) caused in my vegie garden- took about 75 % of my tomatoes.

yuk but wow! Is that a blue winged kooka? They must be very healthy rats around your garden... tomatoes are very good for you:)

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

Great shot... could it be a native bush rat? looks fairly big for your every day drain rat!

Pretty sure it was a rattus rattus rat, it had those sharp fang teeth and a scaly tail. I have seen native bush rats and they longer but fatter nose and larger back legs- a very different body shape. Some rats can get big!

Oxalis is not my friend

I agree with you bushbirdnerd....its definately a common rat.
I have seen them around grain and chook sheds even bigger than that.

hi again :)
it wasn't the size but more so the nose and the look on the face - looks to cute to be a common rat :P

Excellent capture - and very sharp too. It does look cuter than a rat
