Thanks Birdie - it's a beautiful bird isn't it? I have lots of it sitting on the powerline but I don't want to go mad posting too many.
ps I am going to get some new shrubs tomorrow. I'm looking at The Australian bird-garden : creating havens for native birds by Graham Pizzey to try and work out my soil problems
Thanks Hev and Tassie. Tassie it was only my second time to see the brown falcon but I recognised it because of the first sighting. I felt lucky, lucky, lucky. I was trying to creep closer along the edge of the road - lucky the noisy miners had its attention some of the time.
Hey Birdgirl,
I finally got to the library and took out some books this week on birding. ( can't believe I didn't do it earlier!)
I found a beautiful book called "Australian Birds of Prey" by Penny Olsen. Amazing shots and fantastic information on raptors. I am learning heaps from it, and interestingly, one of the things I read was about the reason why black and white birds seem to be able to get away with attacks on larger raptors. One theory she said was that he colours indicate to the raptor that the prey is not worth trying for as they are maybe too aggressive or maybe don't taste good !
More great wing shots,Dont know about you but i find brown falcons the hardest to approach they look nervous as soon as i open the car,if you and birdie are into birds of prey keep an eye out for a old book HAWKS IN FOCUS by Jack Cupper it's the one that sparked my interest.
decided to crop the first one
Yeah Birdgirl..... you nailed that one didn't you?
Beautiful wing shots, well done!

Brilliant:)
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Wow Birdgirl....hold your head high with these ones...exceptional shots....and how good was it to see the Falcon??
