By the same creek as the woodies I caught the buff banded rail again, as usual... taking to the bush as soon as it sees me.
Also these Pacific Blacks that are always there
and these welcome swallows flit in an out through the culvert that the road passes over, they rarely sit still long enough to
snap
and my walk wouldn't be complete without getting the evil eye from one of these Tawnies.
Cheers
Birdie
That's a good variety of birds. I love tawnies - there used to be a pair in the next street. The rails on Heron island aren't so shy - they steal cocktails and ice creams from your hands
yes you were lucky (or maybe very patient) to get the shot of the welcome swallow sitting still, beautiful colours aren't they? the tawny looks like he's snoring.
I hear a lot of tawnies around the house when I'm in bed but never spot any during the day.... maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
birdgirl...do you normally drink cocktails and eat ice creams on your birding walks:)

Love the photos Birdie, the Tawnies really are the most beautiful owl.
@Heva: At day you're probably looking straight at them! But honestly they're camoflague is the best I've seen! They'll probably be in a tree aiming skyward to fit in with the pattern of the tree not moving, shouldn't be too hard to spot :)
Hev - no we were sitting inside near the bar. They leap up and grab what they want, and so do the seagulls. With the cocktails, they go up to an unattended glass (plastic is used for this reason), pull on the straw to knock it over and then drink the spilled cocktail
... hmmm it's worth a thought but I'm sure I would get lots of fuzzy photos and probably lots with the lens cap still on
