Hev, you were asking me what they were... these are as close as I can get with my lens as they prefer the very high Gum trees. This flock has been around all week in this tree.
They are fairly large too, and quite unusual looking .
Cheers

thanks for that Birdie. Funny looking birds aren't they? are they the dove family?
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
Hev1 yep they're topknot pigeons. Birdie you're so lucky to have them near you! I've never seen one.
Hey Birdie,
Im going up to coolum soon and was wondering where the best places are to go bird watching.
Any ideas.
Nice photos. I'd love to see one.
Well Hev, they are a pigeon and at the risk of sounding ignorant I guess they are in the same family as doves.
Andy... near is a relative term... I wish they would take to lower trees, but they love the tree tops I am afraid.
I have seen them in my neighbours treed area at the back of her garden, and at my other friend's house where I see heaps of bird because of all the fruiting trees that are mature there. And this lot were on my morning walk which is a nature trail/ corridor in the suburbs leading into Maroochydore from Buderim.
Qldbird, I can tell you where to find a Brahminy Kites nest, but it is on private land and I would have to request permission to be there. that would probably be ok though . Also if you go to the dog beach at Stumers Creek and walk further up the beach towards Noosa, that is where I found the bee eaters and further on you can go into a trail which leads to the swamp banksias . That is where the white cheeked honey eaters hang our. Osprey nest is visible in the distance form the dog beach as well. Are you coming with your parents?
I'd be happy to meet you there if you wanted. I could bring my daughter as she is fairly interested and is your age. The place I saw heaps of brown honey eaters was at the lookout at the top of the board walk at Coolum Beach itself. It is full of banksias and they love it there.
When will you be up here?

SOrry for all the typos... the Osprey nest is accessible from the back of the sports ground near the swimming complex. it sits on a Telstra tower and over looks Stumers Creek as it flows out to sea.
I got my pics from the other side of the creek in the touch footy grounds, which I found by just driving around and looking for a way into the creekside.

Wow Birdie you are lucky to have them....I have never seen one in the wild.
Top stuff.
Interesting looking bird - I've never seen them
Great Shots what a lovely looking bird.
Sorry I didn't get back to you.
I'm going there on Monday. I'm actually going there with my friend who probably won't want to go bird watching with me.
Thanks for the offer though!
