today i watched in amazement and amusement as a magpie attacked what i think was a wedge tailed eagle swooping showing no fear even plucking feathers from the back of it's head eventually driving it off.IMG]http://i1046.photobucket.com/albums/b467/futura123/DSC_3286a.jpg[/IMG]

...probably wanted something to line its nest with. :-)
I once saw a bird sitting on the back of a koala plucking its fur for its nest!

I like magpies (not the football club), and they are plucky, territorial buggers. I love the second shot, captured true nature- I've seen magpies attack birds of prey on many an occasion, but I've never seen a bird of prey get a magpie, has anyone else?
Oxalis is not my friend
Sparrow, that is really interesting. Like you I am seeing all sorts of heroic acts at the moment, must be Spring Madness that gets to them and alters their perception of themselves!!!
We used to have a German Shepherd with a lovely thick double coat and the sparrows ( this was in NZ not here) used to come down into the garden and run around with little moustaches as they gathered it up for their nests . Soo cute!
