birdie - this is our largest grevillea at the moment. I spent several hours in the weekend trying to break up the clay and replace it with a mixture of sand, native plant soil and compost. I took pity on those who wanted to be outside and did not add the blood and bone - that is still to come. For my troubles I have 6 small plants in and I can hardly walk. I have this dream of a fantastic native garden that is full of birds - lets hope the new plants do better than the last ones. The introduced bird above also likes the native plants
I noticed the yellow grevilleas there. Each morning I walk past a lot of gardens here, and while the birds love a lot of the different trees and shrubs, the yellow grevillea is always full of Loris and the fruiting trees are always full of figbirds. the weepy bottlebrush looking tree has the loris too, but especially the scalies, and I found them in the yellow grev. too the other day
hey I was always told that blood and bone was not good for grevilleas... has that changed over the years?
Hi birdie
I've got one spot to fill so I may look for a yellow grevillea. The one in my photo is pink surprise. I've got honey gem - yours may be that or Sandra Gordon. Pizzey said he used blood and bone and I've heard elsewhere that you can use that or a specific native fertiliser. You better check before you throw it on yours though!
What beautiful shots. We have about 30 grevillea, none the size of yours though. Our largest is our Ivanhoe, the smaller birds love it in there. Our Honey gem has flowered for the first time and its gorgeous. We dont use anything for fertiliser though, we just mulch and thats it. Plants grow beautiful without it.
