Osprey vs magpie and Fairy Martins Nesting

Today I had fun watching these magpies try to see off the local Osprey whose nest is in the territory of these new canals and housing estates. it is a relocated nest that I may have mentioned a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I can't get close to it as it is in a closed area.
These are not very good shots but it was the best I could manage

Wow Birdie, the final shot of the magpie and Osprey is amazing. Shows the incredible size difference. Lovely shots.

Just looking at your photos, one by one I can hear the magpies screaming at the Osprey. Well taken they are amazing!

Scarlet.. I had to look twice as they sounded just like a masked lapwing plover.. screeching out that Kekekekeke sound as they followed it. I felt quite sorry for the osprey as it only wanted to fish in the canal and wasn't bothering them at all, but each time it got low enough to go fishing they came and harassed it some more!!
Just realised I forgot to post the fairy Martins.

And these Little Black Cormorants ( I think) were fishing with no harassment at all !!!

Nice series of action shots well taken.

A Photo is only as good as the eyes that look at it.

I think the mobbing shots are great. I feel sorry for birds of prey - someone is always pestering them. I like the fairy martins too - I haven't seen any posted here before. That was good spotting

the shots are very good tracking birds in flight is hard enough, but 3 all ducking and weaving, you did well, you have to admire maggies they really are game i photographed a similar seen with a wedge tail .
i especially like the last one with the osprey looking back, you can almost hear him say "not you again "

Yes Sparrow, it was challenging that's for sure, and I have heaps of shots of the poor Osprey looking over his shoulder and saying that. I was amazed at how it kept one eye over its shoulder and the other on the "road ahead" so to speak.
They were just incessant with the poor thing... and I ask you.... why would a magpie need to patrol a canal or a lake? It's not as if they need to eat the fish!!! These wetlands would have been the original hunting grounds for the Osprey whose nest has been relocated further onto a reserve part of the newly formed "island" and I am guessing that as mankind moves in then the birds such as magpies would increase. For the Martins, it is a good thing because we have brought bridges for a safe nesting area, but for the Osprey, who would consider it all their hunting territory it would be a different story I guess.
