I went out this morning to look for birds of prey - I couldn't get any photos but I saw an Australian hobby, a nankeen kestrel and whistling kites. I saw dollarbirds on the power lines and in a tree - only my second sighting in the area. I also saw a welcome swallow feeding young that had left the nest

Dollarbirds and welcome swallows
p.s. one is obviously the favourite child!
Awesome shots of the swallows. All these great photos make me want to learn more about photography. And yes, there does appear to be some favouritism!
The Dollarbirds are lovely too. They look so glossy in the sunlight. Thanks for sharing.
Nice action shots.

great shots of the swallows... I had to laugh at the second pic though. It looks like the Australian slips cordon at the cricket appealing for a LBW decision...
Well done with the swallow fledglings. They would have been hard to shoot. good job! :)
Great shots of the swallows. We have them nesting at our place, but don't ever get to see them up close (let alone photograph them) as they are always flying past at an incredible speed!
Thanks everyone
edward they were superfast. I had the camera set on 1/1000 of a second, thinking it would be enough, but when I got home and downloaded the photos I saw I had a lot of wing blur. The only way I could get them was to click as soon as the young stretched forward and opened their mouths (as in 2nd swallow photo) or I missed them. The parent took only a fraction of a second to deposit the food but came back every couple of minutes
wow absolutely brilliant action shots birdgirl. well captured!!
Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best
