Top Knot Pigeon

This was the first time I have been able to catch one of these at a close range. It was so intent on gorging itself on the berries it really didn't worry about me too much. This was just across from my house.

Thanks Guys...much appreciated.
Akos - I spent a long time going through your gallery again this week and it was such a pleasure. I really need to do something to organise my images by species as it is become unruly and harder to find a particular shot when I want to.
Sparrow, I do seem to be in the right place at the right time lately. I have seen quite a few of these around my suburb but usually they are way too high to do anything worthwhile with. I was just coming home from my walk and heard a "heavy bird" (if you know what I mean) in the foliage and berries. Had to look closely and then did a mad dash inside to get the camera.
Didn't really need to bother as it was in smorgasbord heaven :')

I have a lot to thank those palms for as most birds around here have a thing for them.

I have now started to present all birds in families as in he words ending in -ae. I think serious bird people will find more use out of cataloging that way as they know which family they have to look for. I just need to pick a distinct species to represent each family as the thumbnail and sort in alphabetical order (after the hawks, falcons and the owls). In my book, they are on top, regardless of which letter their names start with. :)

OK thanks Akos... looks like my bird photography is taking a more serious bent than I originally intended so I had better get out the field guide and learn some family names.

As I am currently still looking for work here, it sure would be great if I could make money from my photos in some way. I am realistic enough to know that the likelihood of that is very slim for me though, and without work, my chances of getting better quality gear are even slimmer unfortunately.
So I do it for the love and also to keep me sane in the meantime :)

Great looking bird. You must be serious if you are going to catalogue them. Mine are all in folders by the place and date - then after some time I can't remember what I saw where or when!

And that is the problem Birdgirl.... I never remember when or where I took a particular bird. SO the need to be classified under a family name is now becoming important.

lovely shots birdie...you ARE on a roll:)
hmmmm classifying under family names, sorting into folders.... wasn't it you that was mocking me for having my cd's in alphabetical order and getting cranky when someone doesn't put it back in the correct place?hmmmmmmmm???? :)

Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best

LOL... yes that would be me Hev.
I am starting to get frustrated when I want to access a particular image and I can no longer recall which holiday or which spot it was taken on and what I saw at that time. Also if I ever want to use any of these images for anything useful(like making money!!) then they have to be in order. My CDs shall remain in the pickle that they are currently in though :')

I must admit that with this pigeon, I was very lucky and it was really graceful and elegant looking as it gorged !
