Tawny frogmouths

As I walked back to my car, I suddenly saw 2 eyes looking at me. It was a tawny frogmouth on a nest. I felt so lucky! Then when I left her to go to the car, I saw 2 more eyes looking at me, in a tree beside my car! I thought it was her mate, but looking at the photos, I am wondering if it is a young one. It has a cute, fluffy look to it. Aren't their eyes gorgeous? You can see why a lot of people think they are owls.

They are just gorgeous Birdgirl, they sure do have the most beautiful looking eyes, you are so right! Well spotted and well taken.

To quote birdie, 'Well spotted and well taken', the males normally do the day shift sitting on the nest so your second bird is likly to be mum waiting to take over for the night shift, (I also photographed a family of Tawnys today). They incubate for about 30 days, then the young are in the nest for about 4 weeks.

What great birds! Love your photos. They don't build much of a nest for a very big bird.
